【SMBC】サーキュラーエコノミーで主導的な役割を狙う

(2023/5/30)

  • 株式会社三井住友銀行(SMBC)は、Closed Loop PartnersのClosed Loop Circular Plastics Fund(CPF)に1,000万ドルを出資すると発表しました。
  • 当ファンドは、プラスチック素材の回収率やリサイクル率を高めるソリューションやインフラ設備に対して投融資を行い、温室効果ガス・プラスチック排出量を削減することで、サーキュラーエコノミー(循環経済)の実現を目指しています。
  • 今回の三井住友銀行のCPFへの出資は、より持続可能な未来を創造するのに役立つ循環経済ソリューションに対して、投資家の関心が高まっていることの表れです。今後、使い捨てプラスチックへの依存を減らし、気候危機を緩和するのに役立つソリューションに投資することの重要性は、ますます強く認識されるでしょう。

【ペプシコ】ポーランドに最先端のグリーン電力の新工場を開設

  • 米飲料大手のペプシコは、ポーランドに3億ユーロの新工場を開設し、ヨーロッパで最も環境に配慮した工場になることを発表しました。
  • この工場は、再生可能エネルギーによる操業や、水資源の利用削減、グローバルな食料システムの課題に対応するための一連の循環型経済施策を取り入れています。具体的には雨水の再利用、ソーラーパネルによる自家発電、エネルギー高効率機器などの新しいサステナビリティソリューションが使用される予定です。
  • ペプシコは2040年までにネットゼロエミッションを達成するという目標を設定しており、この新工場の開設は、GHG排出削減を超えた、ペプシコの幅広いサステナビリティへの取り組みの一環となります。

【EU】気候変動対策で大きな一歩を踏み出す

  • 欧州議会は企業に対して、クライメート・トランジション計画の実施を義務付けることを決議しました。指令の対象となる企業は、地球温暖化を1.5℃に抑えるというパリ協定の目標に沿ったクライメート・トランジション計画を、スコープ1、2、3の排出量を含めて実施することを求められます。
  • また、2022年2月に発表された「EUコーポレート・サステナビリティ・デューデリジェンス指令案」が設けられており、企業が自らの活動やバリューチェーンが人権や環境に与える悪影響を特定し、対処すること、また気候変動対策計画を採用し実施することを義務付けるものです。
  • これらの新しい規制は、気候変動との戦いにおいて重要な一歩となり、企業が気候変動への影響に対処するために、より積極的な役割を果たすことを強制し、金融システムがパリ協定の目標に沿ったものとなるよう支援するものです。

【トヨタ】米国でのBEV生産と電池工場へ21億ドルの追加投資でEVに賭ける

  • トヨタ自動車株式会社は、2025年からToyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc.(以下、TMMK)で、BEVの新型車の生産開始することと、現在北米で建設中の電池工場への21億ドルの追加投資を発表しました。
  • 今回の発表は、世界の自動車産業が、需要の高まりと政府の規制に対応して、EVへのシフトを進めている中で行われたものです。
  • この投資は、トヨタが電気自動車市場にコミットしていることを示す重要なサインです。また、雇用を創出し、EVの国内サプライチェーンを強化することになるため、米国の自動車産業にとっても好ましい展開となります。

【花王】次世代グリーンCO2燃料の研究に酵素を供給

  • 花王株式会社は、「次世代グリーンCO2燃料技術研究組合」に自動車用バイオエタノール燃料の製造に向けて糖化酵素を供給すると発表しました。研究組合が行うバイオエタノール生産研究において、非可食バイオマスを糖に分解する酵素として花王の糖化酵素が導入されます。
  • この研究組合はバイオマスの利用及び効率的な自動車用バイオエタノール燃料の製造に関する技術研究を進めるため、ENEOS、スズキ、SUBARU、ダイハツ工業、トヨタ自動車、豊田通商、マツダによって立ち上げられました。
  • 自動車用バイオエタノール燃料の製造は、温室効果ガスの排出量を大幅に削減できる可能性を秘めた技術です。また、バイオ燃料の世界市場は今後大きく成長することが予想され、花王は「次世代グリーンCO2燃料技術」に酵素を供給するリーダーとして位置づけることができます。
  • 花王はCO2排出量削減と、サステナブルな社会の実現のため、今後もバイオエタノール燃料製造に必要な糖化酵素を国内外の顧客要望に応える形で提供していくとしています。

【SMBC】Aiming for a leading role in the circular economy.

(May 30, 2023)

  • Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) announced that it will invest $10 million in Closed Loop Partners’ Closed Loop Circular Plastics Fund (CPF).
  • The Fund is investing in solutions and infrastructure facilities that increase the recovery and recycling rates of plastic materials, reducing greenhouse gas and plastic emissions, with the goal of transitioning to a circular economy.
  • SMBC’s investment in the CPF is a sign of growing investor interest in circular economy solutions that can help create a more sustainable future. Going forward, the importance of investing in solutions that help reduce our dependence on single-use plastics and mitigate the climate crisis will be increasingly recognized.

【PepsiCo】Opens Green-Powered, Circular Economy-Focused Plant in Poland.

  • U.S. beverage major PepsiCo has announced the opening of a new €300 million plant in Poland, described by the company as its greenest factory in Europe.
  • The plant incorporates a series of circular economy measures to operate on renewable energy, reduce water use, and address global food system challenges. Specifically, the plant will use new sustainability solutions such as rainwater reuse, on-site power generation through solar panels, and energy high-efficiency equipment.
  • PepsiCo has set a goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2040, and the opening of this new plant is part of PepsiCo’s broader sustainability efforts that go beyond GHG emissions reduction.

【EU】A big step forward in the fight against climate change.

  • The European Parliament has voted to require companies to implement Climate Transition Plans. Companies subject to the Directive will be required to implement Climate Transition plans in line with the Paris Agreement’s goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C, including Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions.
  • There is also an EU Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive, released in February 2022, which requires companies to identify and address the negative impacts of its operations and value chains on human rights and the environment, and to adopt and implement climate change action plans.
  • These new regulations are an important step forward in the fight against climate change, which will force companies to take a more active role in addressing their climate impacts and support the financial system to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement.

【Toyota】 Bets on EVs with the start of BEV production in the U.S. and an additional $2.1 billion investment in its battery plant.

  • Toyota Motor Corporation announced the start of production of new BEV models at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Kentucky, Inc. (TMMK) starting in 2025 and an additional $2.1 billion investment in a battery plant currently under construction in North America.
  • The announcement comes as the global automotive industry is shifting to EVs in response to growing demand and government regulations.
  • This investment is a significant sign of Toyota’s commitment to the electric vehicle market. It is also a positive development for the U.S. auto industry as it will create jobs and strengthen the domestic supply chain for EVs.

【Kao】Providing enzymes for research on next-generation green CO2 fuels.

  • Major toiletry company Kao Corporation has announced that it will supply saccharification enzymes to the “Next Generation Green CO2 Fuel Technology Research Association” in order to produce bioethanol fuel for automobiles. Kao’s saccharification enzyme will be introduced as an enzyme that breaks down inedible biomass into sugar in the bioethanol production research being conducted by the research association.
  • This research association was established by ENEOS, Suzuki, Subaru, Daihatsu, Toyota Motor, Toyota Tsusho, and Mazda to promote technical research on the use of biomass and efficient production of bioethanol fuel for automobiles.
  • The production of bioethanol fuel for automobiles is a technology that has the potential to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, the global market for biofuels is expected to grow significantly in the future, and Kao can be positioned as a leader in supplying enzymes for “next-generation green CO2 fuel technology. 
  • Kao will continue to provide the saccharification enzymes necessary for bioethanol fuel production to meet the needs of customers in Japan and overseas in order to reduce CO2 emissions and realize a sustainable society.
