米キャリア、ヒートポンプ大手の独ヴィースマン・クライメート・ソリューションズを133億ドルで買収

- HVAC、冷凍、サステイナブル・ビルディング・ソリューションを展開する米キャリア社は、気候・エネルギーソリューションのピュアプレイリーダーになるための戦略の一環として、独ヴィースマン・クライメート・ソリューションズを133億ドルで買収しました。
- ヴィースマン・クライメート・ソリューションズは、株式非公開のヴィースマン・グループの最大セグメントで、主にヒートポンプやアクセサリー、太陽光発電、バッテリー、サービスなどを取り扱っています。
- ヴィースマン・クライメート・ソリューションズの買収と、ファイヤー＆セキュリティ部門及び業務用冷凍キャビネット事業の分社化計画により、キャリア社は気候・エネルギーソリューションのインテリジェントなグローバルリーダーとしての地位を確立していくでしょう。
森林再生に向けたネスレの最新の取り組み：衛星を活用したサステナビリティモニタリング

- 食品・飲料メーカーであるネスレは、エアバス社のPléiades Neo衛星を利用して、試験的に同社の森林再生活動をモニタリングする取り組みを行っています。この衛星は長期にわたって、同社が植えた木の生育状況を確認するための高解像度の画像を提供します。
- ネスレは、2030年までに調達先で2億本の木を回復、成長させることを約束しており、今回の取り組みは「フォレスト・ポジティブ」戦略の一環として、衛星モニタリングサービスの活用を強化する計画です。このパイロットプロジェクトは、まずタイ南部に適用され、成功次第、他の地域にもこのアプローチを拡大する予定です。
- 今後、ネスレのように調達先の森林の再生、育成を始める企業が増えていくかが注目されます。
EUの新ルールが航空分野を大きく変える

- 欧州議会の議員およびEU理事会のメンバーは、持続可能な航空燃料（SAF）の使用を促進することが重要として、航空部門の脱炭素化を目指す新しい規則案「ReFuelEU Aviation」に合意しました。
- この規則には、燃料供給会社に対するSAFの最低配合量、航空機運航会社と空港に対する要求事項が含まれています。EUの空港を離陸する航空機の年間燃料量の、少なくとも90%がSAFの最低配合量に適合することが燃料供給会社、および航空機運航会社・空港オペレーターに要求されてます。
- この規則案の合意は、2030年までに温室効果ガス排出量を1990年比で55％削減することを目的とした欧州委員会のロードマップ「Fit for 55」の交渉完了に向けた重要なステップとなります。
「第３回脱炭素先行地域」に岩手県紫波町が選定され、地域特性に応じて先行的な取組によって電力消費等に伴うCO2排出を実質ゼロに

- 岩手県紫波町は民間事業者等との共同で、環境省が実施した「第３回脱炭素先行地域」の公募に応募し、46の提案から選出されました。その内容は、住宅600戸以上に太陽光発電・蓄電池のほか、木質バイオマス熱電併給設備、町内の生ごみ等を原料とするメタン発酵バイオガス発電設備などを導入し、脱炭素化を実現する計画となっています。
- また、バイオガス発電によって発生する消化液については、農林水産省の「水田活用の直接支払交付金」を活用して、町が作付を推奨している子実用トウモロコシ等の肥料として利用されます。このようにして、農業振興と脱炭素施策の相乗効果を生み出そうとしています。
- 共同提案者は東日本電信電話株式会社、NTTアノードエナジ―株式会社、合同会社北上新電力、株式会社ビオストック、株式会社エルテス、株式会社東北銀行、盛岡信用金庫、盛岡広域森林組合、有限会社二和木材で構成されています。2025年までに、全国で少なくとも100か所の脱炭素先行地域が選出される予定です。
清水建設、全国初となる水素混焼ボイラーによる地域熱供給や水素と太陽光による電力供給モデルの構築に向けて共同研究を実施

- 燃料の水素は、山梨県にあるグリーン水素製造装置の研究開発施設「米倉山電力貯蔵技術研究サイト」から供給される予定です。
- 令和6年度～令和8年度には建物照明の点灯、水素混焼ボイラーの運転開始を予定しています。脱炭素化に向けて、水素技術の活用が注目されています。
- この脱炭素化に向けた取組には、清水建設のほか、東京都港湾局、産業技術総合研究所、東京臨海熱供給（株）及び（株）東京テレポートセンターが参画しています。
INPEXと出光、G7サミットに向けて、サプライチェーン上でカーボンニュートラル化されたジェット燃料をANAに提供

- INPEX、出光興産、ANAは、広島で開催されたG7サミットに際して、ジェット燃料サプライチェーン全体の脱炭素化に向けた共同の取り組みを発表しました。この取り組みでは、INPEXと出光興産が、原油の生産からフライト運航時の消費に至るジェット燃料サプライチェーン全体で発生するCO2全量をニュートラル化するべくカーボンクレジットを調達します。
- 出光興産は、カーボンニュートラル化されたジェット燃料をANAに供給し、ANAはG7サミット期間中、広島空港を発着する全便を実質的にCO2排出量ゼロで運航することが可能になります。
- サプライチェーン全体でカーボンニュートラルなジェット燃料が航空会社に供給されるのは、日本で初めてとなります。また、カーボンニュートラル化プロセスは、ソコテック・サーティフィケーション・ジャパンの第三者認証により、その信頼性が担保されています。

- Carrier Corporation, a U.S. company that develops HVAC, refrigeration, and sustainable building solutions, has acquired Wiesmann Climate Solutions of Germany for $13.3 billion as part of its strategy to become a pure-play leader in climate and energy solutions.
- Wiesmann Climate Solutions is the largest segment of the privately held Wiesmann Group, primarily dealing in heat pumps and accessories, solar power, batteries, and services.
- With the acquisition of Wiesmann Climate Solutions and the planned spin-off of its Fire & Security division and commercial refrigeration cabinet business, Carrier will establish itself as an intelligent global leader in climate and energy solutions.
Nestlé’s Latest Initiative for Reforestation: Satellite-based Sustainability Monitoring

- Food and beverage manufacturer Nestlé is using Airbus’ Pléiades Neo satellite to monitor its reforestation efforts on a trial basis. The satellite will provide high-resolution images that will allow the company to monitor the growth of the trees it has planted over a long term.
- Nestlé has committed to restore and grow 200 million trees at its sourcing areas by 2030, and this initiative is part of its “Forest Positive” strategy, which plans to enhance the use of satellite monitoring services. This pilot project will first be applied to southern Thailand, with the possibility of expanding this approach to other areas if successful.
- It will be interesting to see if more companies like Nestlé begin reforestation in their sourcing areas.
New EU Rules Will Make Big Changes in the Aviation Sector

- To promote the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), members of the European Parliament and the Council of the European Union have agreed on a new draft regulation, ReFuelEU Aviation, aimed at decarbonizing the aviation sector.
- The rules include minimum blends of SAF for fuel suppliers and requirements for aircraft operators and airports, which would ensure that the yearly amount of aviation fuel uplifted at EU airports is equal to at least 90% of the yearly aviation fuel required.
- The draft regulation is an important step toward completing negotiations on the European Commission’s “Fit for 55” roadmap, which aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 55% below 1990 levels by 2030.
Shiwa Town, Iwate Prefecture, has been selected as the “3rd Decarbonization Leading Region”. Reduce CO2 emissions from electricity consumption, etc. to virtually zero through leading initiatives based on regional characteristics.

- Shiwa town, Iwate Prefecture, in collaboration with the private sector and others, applied for the “3rd Decarbonization Leading Region” competition conducted by the Ministry of the Environment, and was selected from 46 proposals. The plan includes the introduction of solar power generation and storage batteries in more than 600 residences, a woody biomass combined heat and power generation system, and a methane fermentation biogas power generation system that uses the town’s food scraps as raw materials, to achieve decarbonization.
- In addition, digested liquid generated by biogas power generation will be used as fertilizer for field corn and other crops that the town recommends to be planted, using the “direct payment subsidy for paddy field utilization” provided by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan. In this way, the project plans to create synergy between agricultural promotion and decarbonization measures.
- The joint proposers consist of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Eest Corporation, NTT Anode Energy Corporation, United Kitakami New Electric Power Company, Biostock Corporation, ELTES Corporation, The Tohoku Bank Ltd, Morioka Shinkin Bank, Morioka Regional Forest Association, and Futawa Lumber Co. By 2025, at least 100 decarbonization regions are expected to be selected nationwide.
Shimizu Corporation to Conduct Joint Research to Build Nation’s First Hydrogen-Mixed Combustion Boiler for District Heat Supply and Electricity Supply Model Using Hydrogen and Photovoltaics

- The fuel hydrogen will be supplied from the Yonekurayama Electric Power Storage Technology Research Site, a research and development facility for green hydrogen production equipment located in Yamanashi Prefecture.
- The lighting of the building and the operation of the hydrogen-mixed combustion boiler are scheduled to start in fiscal years 2024 to 2026. The use of hydrogen technology is attracting attention as a means of decarbonization.
- In addition to Shimizu Corporation, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Bureau of Port and Harbor, the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, Tokyo Rinkai Heat Supply corporation, and Tokyo Teleport Center Inc. are participating in this decarbonization project.
INPEX and Idemitsu Provide ANA with Carbon Neutralized Jet Fuel in Supply Chain for G7 Summit

- On the occasion of the G7 Summit in Hiroshima, Japan, INPEX, Idemitsu Kosan, and ANA announced a joint initiative to decarbonize the entire jet fuel supply chain. Under this initiative, INPEX and Idemitsu Kosan will procure carbon credits to neutralize all CO2 emissions throughout the jet fuel supply chain, from crude oil production to consumption during flight operations.
- Idemitsu Kosan will supply the carbon-neutral jet fuel to ANA, enabling ANA to operate all flights to and from Hiroshima Airport with virtually zero CO2 emissions during the G7 Summit period.
- This will be the first time in Japan that an airline is supplied with carbon-neutral jet fuel throughout the entire supply chain. The carbon neutralization process has been verified through third-party certification by Socotec Certification Japan, ensuring the reliability of the initiative.
